economical method of handling coiled strip steel.

Mechanical holding devices can damage severallayers of coiled steel in the process 01gripping the co,il and damage

can also lake place when Ihe coil is released. Properly designed lift magnels  virtually eliminate Ihe possibilily of dalaae.

Much less slorage space is required lor magnelic handling,since a magnelcan lift a coil from directly above

the load,eliminaling Ihe need for alsle space required by

mechanical holding devices. One crane or truck operator can usually load, Iransport  and unload coils wilhout assistance from the floor,freeing up manpower to be used

elsewhere.

Various Iypes of magnets can be used for lifting coiled stee,l  depending on Ihe orienlation  (eye-vertlcalor eye-horizontal,)  the gauge of slee,l the size and weighlof Ihe colI,it's temperature and whether ils banded or loose.

Collmaster magnets have two or four electromagnetic coils.  Pole shoes are enlarged or extended to cover the entire surface of the coiled steel from inslde to outside diameter for handling eye-vertical coils.

 Magnets can also be furnished with contoured pole shoes for lifting eye-horizonlal coils.

Standard Circular Magnet8

Rectangular Magnets

…are also used as general-purpose lifting devices and can similarly be used to lift coiled slee!.

 A standard rectangular magnelcan lift coils only on Ihe flat surface.

Two or three Bi-Polar magnets mounted together on a yoke can handle eye-ver討calcoils;Ihis arrangemenlalso allows for arbor clearance in the hole when required,and better

centering on the magnelby your operalor.  Special reclangular magnels with contoured outer poles can be provided to lift eye-horizontalcoils.Bi.Polar Magnets

...can be adapted for use with eye-verticalcoìls by modifying Ihe pole shoes in accordance th coil 0.0.and

!.O. to assure Ihat each turn of the coiled steel is Individually lifted by the magnet to prevent telescoping.

To lift eye-horizontalcoils,the pole shoes of a Bi

Polar magnet are contoured to rest on the nominaloulside dlameter of the coll.  Large or small diameters are handled equally we,ll  within the limits of Ihe magnet's lifting capacity.

A Bi-Polar magnet for lifting either eye-vecalor eye- horizontalcoi1s can be designed by combining the

contoured pole shoe configuration wilh the Ilat shoe surface.
